humility is not to be confused for an empty vessel. humility does not parade its knowledge but rather sits at the feet of Jesus, never arriving, ever learning.

the guys who looked at it are very knowledgeable, but thanks for the suggestions.
my car, for being a 91, has always gotten high marks by everyone who knows about such things. "clunker" was never a description. shouldnt assume, my brother.

hey teq, here is what i ''assumed'' about your car. It is less than 25 years old. It runs. It gets a combined average mpg of 18 or less. You have owned it for at least a year.
well, that is a 'clunker' under the government program.
sorry if i offended you.

I'm in a weird mood so don't take this too seriously. (Unless you want to.)
First a story, supposedly from WW II but probably apocryphal. This pilot is flying a P-51 performance fighter in a dog fight. He manages to get the plane into a strange flat spin and can't get out of it. He is plunging rapidly to his death. He tries everything and nothing works. Finally, in desperation he prays "Dear God! Get me out of this and I'll give my life to you and become a minister!" Out of no where he gets the crazy idea of dropping the landing gear. Sure enough, it gets him out of the spin and the plane flies perfectly. The pilot looks up out of his canopy toward where he imagines God must be and says "Oh, never mind God, I figured it out!"
Flip side, a scene from Babylon 5 which I love. A line of dialog from G'Kar, a Narn who looks like a cross between a warrior and a lizard observes: "Prophecy is a guess that comes true. If it doesn't come true it is a metaphor."
"Go not to the elves for advice, for they will say both 'yes' and 'no'." -- Frodo, "The Fellowship of the Ring", JRR Tolkien
And if you wonder what that has to do with anything, so do I. If you figure it out let me know. I said I was in a weird mood.

Hi Teresa,
There are people who believe nothing is a coincidence, but I am not one of them. The Bible says that time and chance happen to all men. However, it also says that all things work together for good for those who love the Lord.
I am a firm believer that miracles happen to those who ask for them. I for one drove a van for 15 months and 12,000 miles after the shop told me my transmission was going out. Of course we prayed every time we drove it. It did not die until my husband had a better job with a sign on bonus, in a town that was two hours away from home.
Even more touching to us, it died on a Sabbath. The night before we had a serious prayer session with God asking Him to keep us safe and to show us where to find the best deal on another one. Our car could have broken down in any number of places where there was no one to help us but God allowed it to happen two blocks from the dealer that told us it was going out 15 months before.
There was no rental car open and when they saw it was the transmission they thought was going out 15 months before they were amazed! Needless to say although it was Sabbath and everyone we knew was in SS, we bought another van there. They took our info and gave us a loaner and we came back in three hours, bought the van we have now and it is the best deal we ever got on a car.
Legalists might freak out that we paid for it on Sabbath, but we had no other option at the time. God knows we don't prefer shopping on Sabbath. We knew no one in that town and on the way home, we drove down the coast with the most beautiful sunset praising God all the way home. It was like God was letting us know that He not only provided a safer better vehicle for us and kept us safe, but He gave us the most gorgeous sunset to remind us that it was all done in love and relationship is more important to Him than the mere keeping the legality of a commandment.
Jesus said to ask and it would be given, if we ask in faith. I believe you have faith Teresa and I think God wants to provide for you too. Think big and ask in detail and trust Him to supply your needs--whether it is to keep this car going or get a better one. Remember God has a thousand ways to provide that we have not even thought of yet!
God bless!
Cherie

Mark ok
on the other hand i did like the pilot story. rather telling.
when i told the guy who changed the oil/plugs that it was still running rough he told me that it would take a few days for the oil to burn. but then i have a hard time understanding his spanish. have to say, if i understood him correctly, that ive never in my life heard that!
the car definitely needed an oil change, and the wires were apparently shot but the plugs were still ok.
the guys who "fixed" it think it may have just needed the engine "blown out". thats a possibility i wont deny, but in the four years ive had it ive never had to do that. tho, on occasion, i do get it to up to 75 or so. the way the car was sounding and running they thought the wires might have been crossed when replaced, but they couldnt find anything "wrong". they recommended taking it to a diagnostic, cant afford that.
hard to know. mostly i forgot the prayer, but it keeps trying to pop into my memory, so it makes one wonder.....

my car has gotten nothing but high marks by "mechanics" and "guys" really like it, so the only reason it would go is because i cant afford to fix whatever the problem might be, like a trany, but for the same reason im not able to buy another vehicle either right now. im barely making my bills and my bank keeps taking money lately that i cant figure out what for.
im a "scared" type of person. you know, the skys falling. given my thoughts im tending to think the Lord is letting me hit really low so i can get in the habit of being thankful even when its really bad, instead of scared and tense. have to say it sure do feel better, being thankful than it does being scared and thinking im heading for the street.

Hi T,
I had occasional problems with my Tacoma (nothing too serious, just hard to start a few times) until I changed gasoline.
I buy a higher grade and all is well.
Glad your car is running well again!

my 28 year old car makes a real loud knocking sound and smoke comes out the tail pipe and it doesnt have the power it used to at all. I'm praying that will eventually all go away....before we go on our cross country trip.
