Hey!

Any good movies you recommend that involve God's principles? Star Wars and LOTR definitely have GC themes - can you think of any more? What about movies that looked unprincipled but then surprised you in the end?

If you are of the mindset that there is no such thing as a principled movie - then this thread is probably not for you. Please, lets not turn this thread into a debate on whether or not principled people even watch movies to begin with - thanks ahead of time Wink

One of my favorite scenes of LOTR:

It reminds me of how God condescended to be as one of us and is humbleness personified.

"Doubt" was very thought provoking. It takes a look at the issues around moral certainty vs compassion.

Hey Stacie, another good good thread. I think there are many principled movies. I am married to a woman who loves nothing more than either going to the movies or renting one for home.

i was at business convention about 10 years ago , and one of the surprise guest speakers was a hollywood movie producer. I forget her name, but she let us know that there are a few christian producers in hollywood who are on a mission to bring more christian value based movies to the screen and tv. I was thrilling to hear her speak of the work being pursued there. she said it was an uphill battle, and solicited our prayers.

i think there is some success in that area. Over the years i have become more excited about the broader message a movie can send out. I enjoy looking for Gods spirit at work in a movie.

now, you asked if there were any seemingly unprincipled movies that ended up principled? starting out pretty foul but ending up with a good moral value lesson? funny you should ask (if that is what you meant). I wanted to surprise my wife with a movie and popcorn last week. "The civilization of Maxwell Bright". boy was i embarrassed !!!! i had no clue that it was going to be a shocker, and i mean , shocker. I had to get up and leave after about 8 minutes. My wife is from the hood, she can take anything foul and base. She is an ER nurse of 25 years. so.....

about 20 minutes later (30 miniutes total of movie time), she turns it off realizing it was not a quality movie, with any sort of interesting plot. We both were grossed out.

the next day, while she is at work, i felt impressed to find out why the cover of the dvd was so misleading, or silent, about the vulgarity. The plot is what originally got my attention. well, i watched it, and it became more mellow , then very interesting, and then spiritual, and then very spiritual. Jesus came thru loud and clear. I actually couldnt help but thank God for masking this movie, so that those hardcore people can be witnessed to. It is a sneak thru the back door of their heart, movie. Unbelievers will have a seed planted for sure.

If it could be redone in a G or PG version, it would be a good movie.

Hey Stacie ! i cant believe what i saw today. I went to the movies. Needed a break at 11 am. live very close to theater. So, i have always liked Clint Eastwood, and his new movie "gran tourino" looked like a good vs evil , evil loses ;movie. I was wanting to see what he could possibly pull off at his age.

MAN! ! ! ! was it a shocker ! ! ! if i didnt know better, i would think that someone on the HS staff (mark? marco?) collaborated with Clint on the script. This is an unbelievably spiritual movie., not at all what everyone was expecting! and it was packed, with rednecks! (that was also a shocker).

this is a definate * * * * * star movie, to me, because of it's powerful message. take anyone (a few foul words) who just cant get the HS message of the end of time ! this will get it across BIG TIME . (not yelling just empasizing big time).

dont listen to any reviews or let someone tell you the plot, especially* the ending. totally outrageous. take a box of tissue.

remember my post about the lady producer from hollywood? this has got to be what she was talking about. This should be the one you guys see next.

David,

Gran Torino rocked. However, I can see where it would offend many - and not just Christians. Mindblowing ending, huh? NO ONE had him figured out, not even me. I figured the worst case scenario.

Stacie, the car was sweet, took me back to Starsky and Hutch Cool

dont know about you , but i had to stay till the credits and song were completely done. I was very emotional the rest of the day. I usually let it out in confirmations to my wife and kids when i've been touched like that, it's hard to keep it in.

I cant wait for the DVD so i can hear what inspired him to make such a glorious ending!

have a good sabbath. OH, remind Marco about John in exile. (i know i dont have to ask, your just busy people i figure Eek! .)

Stacie and David,
"To End All Wars" is a true story of World War II POW's held by the Japanese. The captors call the Bible, "superstition," and there are two groups of POWS, the "eye for and eye" group and the "turn the other cheek" group. Roxanne says this movie is her all time favorite. It has a matrix of unbelieving atheists, and the two types of believer groups. The turn the other cheek group, reach a level of Christian maturity that impacts the other two groups. Go and rent it and better yet, buy it, because it is a movie worth watching over and over, while indoctrinating, I mean exposing it to others.

Please all go view it and get back to me. I showed Desmond Doss' documentary to the inmates in the prison and they were really moved, this movie is the perfect sequel to Desmond.
Happy Sabbath and MUCHO AMOUR!!!

stacie, one more thing about gran torino, notice how he came across threatening and impatient and one to be feared and not to be crossed? the general picture of God in the old test? but then................ Big Grin

Some rather obvious movies would be:

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Prince Caspian

Stacie,

What is one of your favorite scenes of LOTR? All I see is a big blank spot where I assume it's supposed to be.
