They are world leaders. Jesus is teaching them how to lead. There is no hidden meaning or agenda going on. You won't find any Masonic or Illuminati secret handshakes. It's basically a leadership convention with the keynote speaker using a towel instead of a microphone.

That's really cool, Marco. But I had no idea that is what it meant. That is a great message if it occurred to people to see it that way. That has never been mentioned by anyone, or I missed it, or forgot about it.

Greg said on his blog: "Obviously, the protesters believe that Jesus would not wash Osama Bin Laden’s feet. But Jesus died "not only for our sins, but for the sins of the whole world" (I Jn 2:2) -- and this obviously includes Osama. So if Jesus died for Osama, how are we to imagine him being unwilling to wash his feet?"

I think basically that is what Brad said.

I really didn't know what to think about that poster. That was why the questions. So based on what Greg and Brad said, that the point was that Jesus would wash anyones feet, I was wondering why instead of those political figures, we wouldn't include - Hannibal Lector - Hitler (that should go over good with our Jewish friends) - Satan - Al Capone - and the Godfathers, Don Vito Corleone, and his son, Michael Corleone - Jack the Ripper? Or how
about a dozen Hooters Girls or Playboy Bunnies, in their working
outfits? I wonder what kind of mall reaction that would get. Christ
died for those people too.

So I was puzzled why you wouldn't think images of political people would not get a political reaction.

I needed some help to see it that way. Written on the Poster - "This is how to lead others" or "He who is the greatest, is the greatest servant" Something.

That was just to "inside" for me.

Great message though, once you get it.

Just a wild guess, Dan, until Marco replies: The Recognizability Factor? Politicos are flashed on the TV screens all the time.

Few know what famous movers and shakers like Warren Buffet, Armand Hammer, Dr. Mahathir or John Howard look like in America.

Donald Trump and OJ Simpson would probably have sued.....so....

Ha Ha. I was worried I might be the only one. But you are a very bright guy, and you didn't get it either. Laughing Out Loud Laughing Out Loud Laughing Out Loud

Who did get it?

Greg Boyd didn't really seem to get it. I've been discussing this with him by email, TRYING THE CRACK THE CODE that isn't supposed to be there. Laughing Out Loud Laughing Out Loud Laughing Out Loud Laughing Out Loud

You're right, Dan:I didn't see it as a

leadership convention with the keynote speaker using a towel instead of a microphone.

like Marco said at all...and it was his concept.

Funny: My wife was an internationally sold oil painter (Monet style) before her blindness, and often what she said was her concept in a creation was not what I or anyone else saw, except the buyer....sometimes...

Greg did mention on his blog:
"Under this picture they had captions like "Follow the Leader," "God IS Great," and most accurately, "Jesus - Still Too Radical?" "

But I think "Jesus Teaching How to Lead" should have been the only one used.

And maybe not have included OBL, as including him distracted from the point. Maybe Castro instead.

that painting could be re-painted on a monthly basis, with an additional character added each month. Is Perez of Venezuela in there? Puttin, Ming, put them all in there. It really is a FANTASTIC way to enlighten the world about Jesus.

Hi David. It will be re-painted periodically to keep things current.

BTW, a large poster of the picture can now be purchased. 2 versions of it are available here:

I posted Greg Boyd's article and the poster at another Adventist forum web site. This is the response that it got (only one response so far):

It is an interesting concept, the painting. Jesus did indeed die for Osama, but I don't know that Osama can still be saved. While I must believe he can, I am not sure that Christ would be washing the feet of all in the picture. It may be pushing theology a bit far. When probations are closed, there is no point in washing feet. Now, if a man were to do it, then I could understand. The painting seems full of political statements rather than theological ones.

Here is a thought that came to mind as I contemplated the picture and what it seemed to be saying.

In the sixth chapter of John is recorded the plain testimony which Christ bore to His followers. "It is the Spirit that quickeneth," He said; "the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray Him. And He said, Therefore said I unto you that no man can come unto Me, except it were given unto him of My Father."

It was necessary that Christ should speak thus plainly in regard to His work. Those who claimed to be His disciples must be tested. They must be proved, and this before He should leave them, lest after His departure their apostasy should come as a surprise to the true disciples, and the trial be too severe for them. The Saviour saw that this test was necessary for the future safety of His church.

"There are some of you that believe not. . . . Therefore said I unto you that no man can come unto Me, except it were given unto him of My Father." He desired to impress them with the fact that if they were not drawn to Him, it would be because they were not sensible of the greatness of the Father's love for fallen human beings. "The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." It is by a living, ever-increasing faith that the soul sees and appreciates the holiness of Christ. This is the glory that pure faith receives, and it awakens in the soul the decided action which demonstrates the power of God.

The plainly spoken truth did its work. By it many were offended. They showed by their actions that truth was unpalatable to them. Closing their eyes to the light, and their hearts to rebuke, they chose the praise of men rather than the admonition of God. They willingly misapprehended Christ's words. "From that time," we read, "many of His disciples went back, and walked no more with Him."

With sorrowful heart the Saviour watched the result of His words, and saw that many were departing from Him. His compassion was unappreciated, His love unrequited, His mercy slighted, His salvation rejected; and He felt this keenly. It was such developments as this that made Him a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.

The news quickly spread that Christ Himself had declared that He was not the Messiah. This garbled statement changed the tide of popular feeling, and turned many away from Him. But Christ did not enter into controversy with those who had left Him. He did not seek to remove from their minds the impression which had resulted in their leaving. He did not try to explain away His words. Looking upon the twelve who remained, He asked, "Will ye also go away?" Peter responded by the inquiry, "Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that Thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God." "To whom shall we go?" Separated from Christ, where would they be? Should they leave His lessons of love and mercy for the unbelief and wickedness of the world? {ST, May 15, 1901 par. 6}
Those who were reproved in love were offended, and turned from Christ in disdain, uniting with His enemies. They could not bear the test sent to save them from fatal deception.

Today souls are being tested and tried, and many are passing over the same ground trodden by those who forsook Christ. When tested by the Word, they reject the divine Teacher. When rebuked because their lives are not in harmony with truth and righteousness, they turn from the Saviour; and their decision, like that of the offended disciples, is never reversed. They walk no more with Christ. Thus are the words fulfilled, "Whose fan is in His hand, and He will throughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the garner."

To those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit, Christ's lessons appear complete in their harmony with His mission of love. Those who are partakers of the divine nature, will be melted into tenderness when the Spirit sends conviction of sin. They will see the great work that must be done for the soul before it is prepared to dwell in the presence of God. They will not be too self-sufficient to receive correction. And in their dealing with one another, they will manifest the pitying tenderness which Christ revealed in His words and works.

True, earnest, self-sacrificing Christians will understand more and more of the mystery of godliness. The Spirit of Christ abides with them. They are co-laborers with Christ, and to them the Saviour reveals His purposes. There is seen in them none of the surface-work which leaves the character dwarfed, feeble, and sickly. Daily they grow in grace and in the knowledge of God. They recognize the mercy which administers reproof and reaches out the hand to restrain evil. In word and deed they say, "Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life."

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Koffee,

No, you did get it. You got "THE IDEA" behind the picture - you interpreted it. Also, I don't want to take full credit for the concept - I was in the car with Brad, Dorothee, Mark and Stacie at the time. I don't remember exactly how it all played out but the idea was fostered by the conversation we were having.

The meaning of the picture is up for debate. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO A PERSON WHEN THEY LOOK AT IT?

The picture means what Greg wrote, what Brad wrote and what you wrote. It also means what Dan wrote ("Huh? I'm confused.")

It did what it was designed to do. Get people to think and make a judgment call about God.

Unlike Dan, I don't think anyone on the team felt it was necessary for people to understand the picture - that may have to come later. It was designed to invoke strong reactions - to force a decision to either reject or accept the God they see in that picture. Or, in the case of Dan - to at least want to investigate the meaning.

In that vein - the picture has served its purpose.

Of course, talk to another team member and you may get a total different response and meaning for the reason the picture was created! And that's the beauty of the picture - even for the team who came up with it it may have different meanings behind it. The one thing we all agreed on when the concept was presented was this:

"YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - that's the picture we want to use!"

:-)

Dan,

If you end up telling Greg he was wrong on his interpretation please make sure you also send him the message I wrote above so he knows he didn't get it wrong.

Please, try and remember that just because you think you missed the whole point of the picture doesn't mean you did. The fact that you are sitting around trying to figure it out means it obviously has done one of the jobs it was designed to do. Furthermore, don't feel like just because you didn't understand the meaning that a large part of the population did, also. It's apparent by the thousands of BLOG posts that you were in a minority. Most people - in some way or another - responded with "I love a God like this" or "there is no way God is like this." A few people responded with "huh?"

Love,

- Marco
