RND,
Thanks for posting that. This is the last exchange I had with Greg Boyd. Today:
************
Greg said:
I think jesus would wash the feet of all the people you mentioned, for
he died for all the people you mentioned. And a picture that depicted
this would offend all who are invested in hating any of the people you
mentioned.
The poster as it stands has one additional value, however. It contrasts
the servant lordship of Jesus with the power-over lordship of the
world's leaders.
Follow the way of the footwasher!
**************
I replied:
I can see THAT point of view. But I think putting up posters with well
known individuals is inviting a factor in to the perception of what is
taking place by who those individuals are. Washing the feet of Larry
Flynt, Hugh Hefner, and Bob Guccione, the publishers of Hustler,
Playboy and Penthouse, would distract from THAT point of view.
But the other part of it is, is that it would be in fact debatable as
to who's feet Jesus would wash. That FACT is, He did only wash the
feet of His disciples. He did in fact interact with all these other
people from various walks of life. But He did not wash their feet.
There may be a good reason why He did not, and presumptuous for us to
say that He would. I see a lot of presumption in religion, as do you.
And we all have blind spots.
Jesus had a relatively lengthy relationship with His disciples. Did
Jesus relate to everyone the same way? He refers to Satan as a liar
and a murderer. He told others that they were of their father the
devil. These were those calling to crucify Him. Are you 1000% sure he
would wash their feet? Are you a Universalist? If Jesus was, He is a
liar also.
Just some things I notice.

Not sure what to say. I guess you just don't see things the way I do.

- Marco What things? Am I supposed to?
I think there is two things going on. The message of the poster, which is apparently no correct meaning for, and foot washing. So the poster does not need it to be about who's feet Jesus would wash. It could be about how to lead, as was peculiar with you. And it wasn't about politics, to you.
Furthermore, I don't understand how ANYONE could ever mistake that picture as a political statement - it's so ANTI-politics and anti-world government I don't even know where to start. I think some people did.
But for those of us who saw a comparison in the poster with washing the disciples feet. Then for those people, it would be a matter of who's feet Jesus would wash, if not the disciples.
I was thinking of starting a topic, "Why wash feet?" to discuss exactly why Jesus did what He did, and didn't do what is depicted in that particular poster.
I like your particular view that it was to teach people how to lead. And I think that is why Jesus washed the feet of His disciples. But I don't know if that is biblically accurate or would be the most accurate interpretation.
Could this be accurate in you view? The poster was intended to invoke A response. Jesus washing feet was intended to invoke A SPECFIC message.

I think the poster did it's job! Made people who don't know Jesus question and made others who do know Him (or of Him) move into two camps....happy or angry. Isn't that what meeting Jesus does? Isn't that what Jesus Himself did while He was here?

Margret,
Can you identify for me in the Bible the happy and angry campers that resulted from Jesus washing feet? Is that why He did it?

Very funny!
What I meant was that the sight of Jesus ministering to the "untouchables" or the outcasts of society in those days provoked strong reactions either positive or negative.
