Love is Like...

What do Edorah Frazer, Pilar Gonzales and Tom Hsieh all have in common? They all have a passion for mankind. This trio belongs to the 50% League, donating half their income to charity. Edorah inherited $550,000 and shared $425,000; Pilar makes $16,000 a year and shares $8,000; and Tom who makes $200,000 anually as head of a telecommunications consulting firm, lives on $38,000, sharing the rest.  What do Edorah, Pilar and Tom all have in common? They love the poor and impoverished as Jesus taught us how to love.

God seeks out His children who are not just monetarily bankrupt but even more than that, the spiritual bankrupt. He says, " My love for you is so strong it won't let you go. Love is as powerful as death. Love's jealousy is as strong as the grave. Love is like a blazing fire. It burns like a mighty flame. No amount of water can put it out. Rivers can't drown it. Suppose someone offers all of his wealth to buy love. That won't even come close to being enough." - Song of Songs

Wow! I'm especially impressed with Pilar! Living off of $8,000 a year--that is housing for some folks. It is just a reminder that however much we do have, we can share! To the glory of God! -Cherie

Cherie,

Pilar has built a career advising non-profits and philanthropists and was homeless herself at one time. She says, "I know the lonliness of being poor."  Even though her whole wardrobe fits into two suitcases - she doesn't care, her passion is helping those who society deems as throwaways.  She hands out sandwiches, water, coffee, hats and money to day laborers in Oakland, Ca.
