Isaiah 53:5 describes the healing process by which knowing God (John 17:3) is at the very foundation. While this knowledge simply heard is not enough to transform our hearts, we are encouraged to partake in Christ - eat His flesh and drink His blood. In other words, by "feasting" on truth, we experience a human resurrection from a life in the grave.
Sometimes, before the greater themes of God's love can be understood, He will use others to reach our stubborn, greedy or careworn hearts like family, friends and many times - strangers. Sometimes it takes a shocking headline or even a personal tragedy before we wake up and realize our condition.
There is a man who has made a lasting impression on many and not just because he's a Professor of Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, and Design at Carnegie Mellon, where he was the co-founder of Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center (ETC). Its not because he's a phenomenal speaker and presenter or even that he's experienced zero-gravity...
Randy Pausch was recently asked to give a "Last Lecture" at Carnegie-Mellon which isn't so great in itself except that Randy has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given 3-6 mos to live. It literally was his last lecture. In this author's opinion, Randy's keen sense of personal mission and refreshing humility serves as a gleaming template for us all.
