What Kind Of God Is This?

I recently heard a person ask, "But what about the fact that God became a baby? How on earth did God do that?" There are doctors and theologians and doctor/theologians who have some very vivid answers for such a a vivid question. Upon hearing such an inquiry I immediately thought of how many people this young student was speaking for, people who just never summoned the courage (or audacity!) to express such provocative curiosity. True, it is a topic many avoid for obvious reasons but really, it begs for an answer beyond biological logistics.Maybe we are getting sidetracked by the question, "How did God become a baby?" I mean, the point is simply that He did in fact become one. When drawing the most puzzling questions with the drawstring of our wildest imagination and reason, we are perplexed until we empty those questions on the floor of the controversy over God's character. Only then do the pieces of the puzzle begin to take shape.Think of how many people you have heard comment on the judgement of God and how He will punish evildoers, or maybe you've heard some say He is love so He is incapable of destroying anyone or anything.
Can you think of at least one time you heard someone say anything even remotely related? I have, even if it was just in jest. Fear of the unknown is prevelant in the heart of man - always has been and that is why coming to know God and what He is like is the only cure for the wounded soul. He IS the epitome of the "great unknown"! Although so many talk about Him, write about Him, adore, criticize, worship and blaspheme Him, He remains the most sought after person to decipher. Even His harshest critics hunger to shatter the wall of ambiguity that seems to shroud this God who I believe came as a human to shatter that wall Himself. In response to God becoming a harmless infant and then maturing into a man to show the world He is not to be feared brings to mind a comment made by author and speaker Ty Gibson, "What kind of God is this?" What kind of God IS this?
