Who is My Mother?

As I sat in church this morning listening to men and women share how thankful they were for their mothers, there was one man who stood out from the rest. With tears in his eyes he implored the congregation to, "Call your mother! Visit your mother! Let her know how grateful you are and how much you love her!" I could not help but think of those who sat there silently struggling with the knowledge that their mother abused them physically, emotionally and/or spiritually. His well meaning words must have seared their conciences for are we not taught to love our enemies? Even when that enemy bore us from her womb?
While we know that reconciliation with others is a necessary step to wholeness, sometimes it is impossible for many reasons. We all yearn for reconciliation that can bring an end to heartache but the only reconciliation that can heal all wounds is the One who molded us in that womb in the first place. It is by gaining momentum in a dynamic relationship with God that we are able to understand our broken relationships better and see how our own accountability (with some exceptions) plays a huge part in rectifying matters. So, no matter your sitation come tomorrow, remember that whether your mom is the apple of your eye or not, there is a God who will never leave nor forsake you.
