Happy New Year!

With the flip of the calendar from one month to the next something magical seems to happen. Some folks decide to gain good habits and others decide to drop bad ones; we all know the list of popular resolutions that involve food, cigarettes and the gym. The interesting thing is this, by the end of February - and sometimes even January - many of those resolutions lose their polish and quickly take their place in the heap of "should haves." Does this discourage us? No! We still have this knack at bouncing back, maybe a little embarrassed for not following through but hey, life goes on right?
There is one thing we can all do no matter our political or religious affiliation, and that is to "ponder the rock from which we were cut, the quarry from which we were dug" and by that I mean we can consider ourselves in a new way. Sound too simplistic? What I am talking about involves looking past all the accessories of your life, all the details that you attach to your home and to yourself to create an attractive package. What makes you what you are? Are you doing what you absolutely love to do? Are you fulfilled? Are you spending more time consuming than giving back?
All of us are walking, talking, flesh and blood "books" of intricacies - full of contradictions and hesitancy's yet seem to find room for resolve and courage...how incredible! No wonder we are easily offended, with such fragile egos to tend to huh? The good news is that healing and hope can be found and it is closer than you or I think. King David knew all too well the grief that one's poor decisions can bring - the awful feelings of underachievement in personal affairs and deliberate cruelty that humans are masters at inflicting. Yet, the king also was very familiar with the joy that comes in the morning after a bitter night of guilt and remorse and He believed his Maker when He likened man to Zion:
"Likewise I ,God, will comfort Zion, comfort all her mounds of ruins, I'll transform her dead ground into Eden, her moonscape into the garden of God, A place filled with exuberance and laughter, thankful voices and melodic songs." Isaiah 51
Here at Hs.com we wish you a year rich in seeking, learning, and peace. Perhaps one way to begin achieving these great pursuits is to admit we don't have all the answers - that in itself would probably change the world overnight.
