The Good News Tour!

HeavenlySanctuary.com is delighted to announce the Good News Tour 2006. This conference will be held June 16 and 17, 2006 in Redlands, CA, and will focus solely on the character of God. All of the speakers for this conference have a passion to proclaim the truth about God’s kindness. Alden Thompson, Manuel Silva, Marco Belmonte, Tim Jennings, and Ty Gibson, each bring a unique and complimentary perspective about the character of God

Deep down, what kind of a Person do we believe God to be? Is the Father a powerful yet detached ruler? Is he offended by our sin? Is the picture of a punishing and vengeful judge a legitimate aspect of God’s true character? Do we agree with the assessment of Job’s friend who said, “I won’t ask to speak with God; why should I give him a chance to destroy me? God’s power is so great that we cannot come near him…” (Job 37:20,23)

Our entire religious experience is ultimately based on the picture of God’s character that each of us carry in the recesses of our mind. But in our search for this reality, a multitude of conflicting pictures and additional questions naturally arise. Does God need to be appeased by sacrifice? When God the Father looks at his children, can he really see them, or does he only see the covering of Christ’s righteousness? Does the Father need to be pled with to forgive? Can God be trusted with his infinite power? Is there ever a reason to be afraid of God? Does he really burn those who reject his offer of love and friendship in sulfurous flames? Does his love and acceptance of sinners fluctuate based on their day to day performance? When Jesus declares of himself that he is gentle and humble, does this mean that the Father is also this way? Jesus did not condemn the woman caught in adultery. Does the Father condemn those who commit adultery? Does God ever condemn? Jesus washed the feet of his betrayer. Would the Father wash the feet of his worst enemy? How do we reconcile the God of the Old Testament with gentle Jesus – God in the flesh? Is there an aspect of God’s character which Jesus did not fully reveal?

We will examine the Biblical evidence as we discuss these and many other questions at this conference, with the goal in mind to come closer to the reality of God’s Person. We believe that as we see more clearly, the ultimate conclusion will always reaffirm that God really is just like Jesus in character. Or, perhaps better said, Jesus is God, and Jesus revealed the character of the Father to be sheer graciousness, kindness, gentleness, forgiveness, and even humility. That God is this way is the best Good News of all! Jesus revealed that what God wants more than anything is our intimate friendship, and that we experience the restoration and healing that is a natural result of becoming God’s friend.
