The Wiser Men

The chosen ones of God called them heathens. God called them His own. Who were they? They are popularly recognized as The Magi or The Three Wise Men from the East who came bearing sacrifices of adoration to the chosen One who was born beneath a star in Bethlehem.
These men were philosophers, avid students of the constellations and scriptural prophecy. It has been written of them, "They had studied the handiwork of God in nature, and had learned to love Him there."
Once they saw the new star, at once they thought of the prophecy which says, "There shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel. " Numbers 24:17. They pondered this new light in the dark evening sky and before long herded their beasts of burden toward the One they believed would reveal all truth. "When they came into the house, they saw the young child with Mary His mother, and fell down, and worshiped Him: and when they had opened their treasures they presented to Him gifts; gold, and frankinsence, and mrryh. " Matthew 2:5-11.
Who exactly were these men who journeyed from afar? How could it be that these heathens were able to recognize God in the form of a helpless infant and yet the great teachers of the law and the learned priests in Israel were blind to the Light that came to dispel all darkness? While they meticulously strapped the Holy Writ to their foreheads and wrists, strained gnats from their milk and paid their tithe generously in mint and cumin - they did not notice that the Truth became flesh and walked in their midst.
Is history repeating itself?
