God Does Not Want Our Worship

So you think God wants you to bow down at His feet and worship Him? Do you picture God as some kind of person who sits on a monstrous throne in the sky demanding our servitude or else? I think it is a popular belief that reverence and worship of the Creator somehow involves puny humans groveling at altars within man-made walls, on their knees, hands clasped and muttering long prayers that are meant to twist His arm and appease His wrath.

It makes me sick to my stomach to think that our God's reputation has become so muddied. When we look at the life of God, when He decided to become a man and reveal Himself to us, we don't see Him seated on thrones, residing in palaces, and waving golden scepters. No one had to wait for a formal invitation by way of a raised scepter from God to invite he or she to the royal throne room, in fact, God went to them. No one had to kiss His feet because guess what? God was too busy washing theirs! It is the same today as it was 2,000 years ago; God is still in the business of becoming last and exchanging love for hate. While the world mocks Him, He girds his waist, takes a basin and bends on knee to wash it. He can't help it and we just find that utterly irresistable.
