Freedom Has Left the Building... Or Has It?

Does voting in Iraq mean peace and justice for all?  Not to sound cynical but (okay, I'm sounding cynical) are the Iraqi's getting a chance to truly use their God-given ability to vote in a new leader of their nation or is this whole voting procedure a sham?

It is true as Americans we are able to enjoy liberty and we wish the same for oppressed nations but sometimes I think we try too hard to put our "stamp" on others as if it is this black-and-white-cut-and-dried process. Is the recent turning of events something to applaude or not? I do not know and that is why I wrote this article. While it appears that the curtain of oppression has begun to lift and the key players are anticipating an encore, is the "audience" really so quick to throw accolades?  Some are not. In fact, after seeing photos of tear-stained cheeks of Iraqi women clutching voting tickets and waving purple-stained index fingers I for one was ready to cast my vote of approval until I read a fascinating editorial penned by an Iraqi woman who sees this whole voting process as a "cruel joke."  You can check it out here.

We've removed a dictator that was no threat. It has basically been proven by this whole war that Saddam had no plans to invade any countries, had no weapons of mass destruction and had no ties to any terrorism groups. He also knew his country very well, and now the Iraqi people are going to be voting for people who don't have a clue as to what's going on and are only able to put themselves on the ballot because they have enough money to. There's also a huge infestation of terrorists there, all sorts of things have been destroyed, many people have died, ect., ect. No, nothing to applaud. There's other things more important than freedom (and what freedoms were Saddam restricting anyway? can we say LIES?), like living. I think about 10,000 Iraqi's died during this whole thing, and a little over 1,000 Americans. And of course there's grieving families and such... but that's OK.. we removed a DICTATOR, and all dictators are bad. Doesn't matter why, they just are. All of them.

No, it's not something to applaud. It's disgusting. It's stupidity. Way to go Pres. Bush you're impressing lots of people.... he needs to get a clue.

-Well, if it's anything like the U.S. system, God forbid, then the whole "voting procedure" is indeed a sham.
