My youngest daughter worked as an LE for three years of Academy. She spent her first year of college at home and then went to Southwestern in Texas, then to Walla Walla to finish her last 3 years. When she started her religion and philosophy class she left the church (mentally) for almost 2 years. Some minds are tender and haven't the exposure or maturity to debate some of these hard issues. I fear there are tender among us.

The only way this could or anything could turn into a cesspool is if we allow selfish motives to prevail.
This isn't about converting or convincing but rather learning.

Guys, no one meant for anything to become a nightmare, believe me. I was suprised as anyone else concerning the lashing out. If we are touting this to be a safe place to dialogue, then we had better own up to that.

The fact of the matter is, I do not feel safe discussing many things on this site anymore. Capital punishment, judgement, the death of the wicked, etc.

One of the things that I settled in my mind during my time away was that much of the convictions I hold are repulsive to Marco, and always will be. No amount of dialogue will ever change that.

This is why I am avoiding many topics and sticking the light-hearted, fun stuff. I don't need the grief that last forum brought me.

Hey, I love this idea. I do have a few reservations. I hope this doesn't turn into the cesspool that it did on Christian Chat. What a nightmare. We better be really kind and thoughtful. I better listen to myself.

Actually Scott, I have had plenty of exposure to debate and heated discussion. I don't have a problem with that IF it is done fairly. I know Marco is above some of the cheap shots he took at me in the 'Politics' thread, that's why it suprised and hurt me when it happened. It caught me totally off guard, and I was speechless when I read his response. He's my friend, and I don't like upsetting him. I never saw it coming.

If I had known that capital punishment was such a sore topic with him, I never would have mentioned it. But I don't think the stand I took deserved being compared to a pharisee who thinks they are better than others, or the statement that there was a time when my convictions would have caused him to drive up here and blow up my wife and I (I know it was anger talking, but I was still appalled that he would say that.)

And of course, we have the old 'I am becoming a bloodthirsty, vengeful person just like the God I worship' jab which is totally uncalled for.

Marco, my friend, I beseech you one last time-please don't use that one against me anymore.

All I am saying is that if we are supposed to be able to dialogue without fear of reprisal, than the statements concerning my belief in capital punishment should fall under that same protection, even if someone vehemently disagrees.

No, I am not tender hearted Scott. I was just suprised and confused. I felt like I was being portrayed in a light that was not accurate by Marco, and I defended myself. That's it.

I enjoy the light stuff! I am not saying I will never offer anything on the heavier stuff, but I will avoid the inflammitory topics at all costs.

I hope that you both can see that is a good thing.
